The “Wait” Technique

Quickie overview…

When your visitor closes your web page, it doesn’t mean they’re not interested in what you’re selling. Chances are, there’s something that stops them from ordering — and that something is probably something small.

This techniques allows you to find what that something is, and as a result, answer your client’s individual concerns and close the sale.

Here’s what you need to do…

This Quickie assumes you already have a website, and you’re already selling something.

1. Create a page that looks like the one below…

wait_technique_pic1

This is a live version of a page that Armand Morin’s AudioGenerator site uses (I’d recommend this tool for a step in just a moment, too). Notice how simple the page is. All you really need is to ask for the user’s name and email address at this point.

2. To enhance the page, include a picture of yourself (like Armand has above). This is an immediate strategy for increasing your visitor’s “comfort factor”. In other words, by seeing you on the page, they feel more secure that they’re dealing with a real person and not just a cold corporate presence.

3. Another great technique for making your visitor feel good about your site, is to record and include your voice on the page. You can use a tool like AudioGenerator to include a Flash control pane like that featured above, to allow your voice to stream over the web. It’s about $30 a month to use something like this, but is worth every penny — you’ll find a ton of different uses for it.

4. Now, when you’ve finished the page, you need to create some kind of report that answers your visitors most common concerns. This is kind of like an enhanced “Frequently Asked Questions” page, but is more informal and light-weight. It can be as long or as short as is necessary.

The aim here is to answer all of your visitors concerns. And, at the end of it, offer an immediate call for action (Something like a small discount, perhaps).

5. Hook this page and the report up to a follow-up autoresponder, like Aweber or GetResponse, and make sure it’s all working.

6. Insert the code provided with this Quickie within the <head> section of the page you want to add this pop-up to. Remember to change the “URL” part of the code to point to your pop-up box.

And, remember to change the “300px” part in the height and width to the correct dimensions to relate to the page you’re popping up. For instance, if your page is 500 pixels in width, you’d write 500px.

7. Add the <body unload> part to your page, too.

8. The pop-up box will automatically appear on the screen when the page in your browser window changes. If you wish to navigate to another page without the pop-up box appearing, add the following to your <a href> code…

<a href=”URL_goes_here” onClick=”exit=false”>;

This will tell the pop-up not to show when you navigate to those individual links.

And that’s it! You’ll have everything you need to make your customer think twice about walking away from your offer.

SCRIPT:

Insert into code into your <head> section….

<SCRIPT LANGUAGE=”JavaScript”>

<!–

var exit=true;

function ShowExit() {

if(exit) {

if(document.all) showModalDialog(’URL’,window,’status:no; help:no; dialogHeight: 300px; dialogWidth: 300px;’);

}

}

//–>

</SCRIPT>

And then, insert this into the <body> section…

<body onunload=”ShowExit();”>
