Keyword research is an essential knowledge because keywords tell you what people want and are searching for. Keywords tell you what problems people want to solve.

Generally speaking people go online to either solve a problem or being entertained.

Keyword research is also related to finding profitable niches if you are into affiliate marketing.

If you can solve your prospects problems by giving them a quality product you have a customer for life. If you scam them you may sell them once and then they are gone forever.

Copywriting

    Copywriting is an important part of having an online business. You want to target your prospects worst fears and frustrations and then offer them a quality solution to solve their problems. They are going to thank you for helping them out and you will build long term relationships with them.

If you have a customer base make sure you survey them and ask questions like this:

What´s your worst fear when it come to _______?
What´s most frustrating with ________ ?
What do you want to achieve with ________?

It might also be a good idea to ask for their phone number because if they give the phone number to you. You know they are serious about this.

Wyatt Woodsmall once said; “Camp out in your prospects worst fears and nightmares.”

This means, it´s critical that you know your prospects inside out and “continue a conversations they already have inside their head…”

If you can do that, your prospects will be able to relate to you and trust you. If they trust you they are MUCH more likely to also buy from you.

People hate being sold but love to buy….

Think about that for a minute.

If you have an online business or plan to start one, you need to know that relevancy is the key when it comes to search engines and pay per click advertising.

If you succeed in being relevant and focus to solve your prospects problems they won´t feel being sold to. They will thank you instead, for delivering a solution to their problems.

When it comes to marketing an online business there are two big marketing channels:

SEO – Search Engine Optimization

PPC – Pay Per Click Advertising

You need to engage in both, you either learn how to do it yourself or outsource the work on a daily or weekly basis.

But before you take the step of doing SEO and PPC. You need to know your market and your keyword research, without it you won´t find the right path.

SEO is the art to create a website according to the guidelines of Google, making it relevant and easy to use. One layer of your website needs to focus on human beings, marketing, layout and pictures, another layer needs to focus on search engine “spiders”.

I use Google as a measure tool because their guidelines are the toughest to implement. Google will also generate the most traffic for you.

Google uses algorithms to decide what a certain website is about. They read title tags and analyze your content. Often times Google sees your website in a completely different light than you do. Because of that, internet marketers and online business owners use tools to optimize their websites for Google.

Keywords are worth money. If you are indexed on the first page in Google for the term “dog training”. That particular keyword is worth $45,000 a day !

All keywords have a value, learn how to choose both long term relevant keywords with a high competition and short term relevant keywords with a low competition. You can use these keywords in your SEO strategy and in your PPC strategy as well.

Online website promotion  - 11 steps to online website promotion

Here´s a quick strategy for your next online website promotion. This strategy will give you traffic and sales in an instant.

I am going to show you how you can drive traffic to a specific page using low cost pay per click advertising. This strategy is based on PPC Classroom 2.0 with teacher Amit Mehta.

This guy made his students $4,2 million dollars, so don´t take this strategy lightly even though it´s free and just some text on a paper.

You need a Google Adwords account or a Yahoo search marketing account to implement this strategy quickly. You can setup an account in minutes, so don´t hesitate taking that step.

Online website promotion step by step guide

1.    Go to Google´s free keyword tool. You can just search for Google keyword tool . Enter your main keyword and choose ”show all” in the drop-down box to the right.

This will give you an idea of how much advertisers pay per click for a certain keyword. Pick 5 – 10 keywords that are relevant to your business and witin your budget range. Remember, you can change keywords later but you need something to start with.

2.    Take a look at your website and make sure you have enough relevant content for your main keywords. If not write at least five unique articles and publish links to those at your frontpage. Adding a link at the bottom of your page is perfectly ok.

3.    Add a contact us page, a privacy policy (You can copy someone else´s policy and modify it to your needs.) and try to find some ”neutral” webpages you can link to that are high up in google´s search index.

This might be wikipedia a .gov or .edu site, maybe ezinearticles or squidoo. Search for your main keyword in Google and locate the sites that don´t interfere with your marketing but still show´s a lot of weight in Google.

4.    Decide if you are running a ”squezze page” that you set up to generate leads for your business or if your goal is to make sales.

You need to grab the attention from your visitors with a relevant and benefit driven headline. If you can invoke a little bit of your prospects worst fears or frustrations in that headline it´s even better.

Ask your yourself this question, thinking like a visitor; What´s in it for me ?

Your visitors are going to ask themselves why they should stay and have a look at your website.

If you can offer them a quick solution to their problems they are likely to stay and take you up on that offer. You need to quickly show them that you understand them and think like they do.

5.    If you are running a squeeze page, make sure the opt-in box and the benefit driven headline is above the fold, meaning that visitors can see that part of your page on a normal sized computer screen. They should need to scroll to see the opt-in box.

6.    IMPORTANT, weather you are running a squeeze page or a salespage. You should have some kind of tracking so that you know what keywords convert for you.

Google and Yahoo uses convertion code that you can put in your thank you page. This should be the page you take your customers to after a purchase or after they have signed up  for your emaillist.

In Google you choose ”the tools tab” and then ”conversion tracking”. They will generate a snippet of code for you and tell you how to install it on your own thank you page.

This step is important because it will tell you what keywords actually make you a lead or a sale. After some initial testing you can get rid of keywords that don´t make you any money and keep the ones that do and optimize them even further.

7.    Now, go to your Google Adwords account or your Yahoo account and setup a campaign fro your page. Use the keywords you found earlier using the free Google keyword tool.

Write adcopy like this: use the keyword as your headline. If you can´t fit it in. Try to use a chunk of it.

Write a benefit driven description and if possible, use your keyword here as well. To begin with I would recommend a pretty high bid to keep you on the first page, try to be somewhere between position 1- 5, because this will give you a high click through rate and help you get a good quality score.

You can decrease your bid after a day or two when you see that your click through rate is good. 1% and below  is pretty bad and everything above 3% is pretty good. When you decrease the prize try to still be on the first page.

8.    Quality score is important to be profitable using PPC, so keep an eye on that. A quality score somewhere between 6/10 and 8/10 is OK.

You will notice though that your bid price will change quite substantially between 6/10 and 8/10. In the beginning your click through rate should be the most important factor to get a good quality score.

Some other things to look at is amount of content on your webpage and relevant information for your keywords and loading time of your website.

9.    Write two ads for every keyword so that you can splittest your ads to see which one that has the best click through rate.

Don´t delete two ads in one go. If you decide to change one of the ads, no problem, but keep the old one running for another week before you consider chaning that one as well.

If you change both of your ads your ad-history will be reset and you have to start over. This will slow you down and you will lose some money doing this.

10.    After having clicks on your ads, keep monitoring your conversion data and make adjustements accordingly.

You can ad articles to your site and keep growing this as much as you like. The important thing is to have tracking at place otherwise you have nothing to guide you when making decisions. 

Tracking is the main key to your online website promotion being successful or not.
11.    If you find keywords that converts really good but you want to improve your quality score.

You might consider creating a separate landing page for that particular keyword, with optimized articles and links.

You should even consider using a new URL with the keyword in the domainname and implementing all of the steps above on that URL.

This will make you a very optimized page for a specific keyword with a good quality score, meaning you don´t pay very much for clicks compared to your competition bidding on the same keyword.

I would highly recommend using an article strategy to increase traffic longterm. Your articles won´t disappear  the next time Google changes their terms.

3.    Conversion – Internet Marketing Tips

What do you do when a customer lands on your page ?

They will give you about  five seconds to understand what your page is about. If it´s relevant to their search they might decide to stay. If it´s not, they will click the back button in an instant.

Conversion is the art to get your prospect to take a certain action.
Usually you would  like to generate a lead or a sale. You want to build a relationship with your prospects.

A LOT of people go wrong here, just make sure you are VERY clear on what your offer is and what your page is about.

Don´t use a lot of different fonts and colors, keep things very focused and communicate like you would to a friend of yours.

No need to shout or being extremely pushy, just a headline or a title that explain the  main benefit. It might be effective to have a ”heroshot” related to your business. You know, a guy or a girl smiling can sometimes be enough. We humans like to relate to other humans and if they are happy we get in a better mode as well.

But mainly, conversion is about the words and weather you understand your prospects or not.

If you write a headline that goes like this:

”I have developed the most amazing system to make money online, keep reading to unfold the secret…”

What´s wrong with that ?

Well, to start with, try to avoid talking about yourself, keep focus on your prospect and use the word ”YOU” a lot.

Be as specific as you can and target their biggest fear, frustration or benefit in the headline.

I guess the good thing with the headline above is that you get a little bit curious, but maybe we can write it like this instead:

Headline:

Subhead:
Say goodbye to being a slave under your boss and retire in five years from today.

4.    Create Your Marketing First THEN Your Product - Internet Marketing Tips

If you´ve ever thought about creating your own product. You need to think about this.

Create your marketing first then create your product. What I mean by that is that just writing a headline for your target audience will make you focus on specifics and solve a specific problem.

That´s a good thing…It will keep your product focused.

Try to write a sales letter before you even start making your product, make a bullet list of benefits from your product. You´ll soon realize that you can  use those bulletpoints as headlines for your product line.

If you like to create a cure for dog barking. You can start writing a couple of headlines based on your  research of the main problem with dog barking.
Why do people want their dog to stop barking?

Well, maybe they feel embarrassed as soon their dog barks in public.
You need to figure this out, by asking dog owners, going to forums or making a survey. You need to know what their biggest fears and frustrations are. When you do, create headlines that solves their problem.

When you have the headlines keep writing bulletpoints targeting more fears and frustrations and benefits.

After that you are ready to start to create your product because you´ll know what issues are most important to solve. Your customers will love you for it and the bottom line is. You´ll make more money.

6.    Increase traffic by using both long term and short term traffic solutions. If you only want to focus on two areas to start with I recommend article marketing for the long term (sometimes even for the short term) and  paid services like solo-emails and PPC for some quick short term traffic. PPC can definately be used for long term traffic as well, but you need to set things up more carefully.

7.    Long tail keywords, if you don´t know what that is you need to learn all you can about them. In short, long tail keywords are phrases of 3 – 8 words combined, together they become ONE keyword phrase. The competition is lighter and you can rank more easily for those phrases and if you use PPC your cost per click will be much lower. Don´t underestimate the power in the free Google keyword tool for your keyword research. Here´s an example of a long tail keyword: ”Internet Marketing Tips Orlando”. This keyword phrase consists of four words and should be spelled like this exactly if you want to rank for the phrase.
